The benefits of testosterone replacement therapy

The aim of testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) is to restore testosterone to a physiological level and alleviate symptoms of testosterone deficiency 31.

ED

  • TRT as monotherapy, or in combination with a PDE5i, has resulted in significant improvements in erectile function in hypogonadal men who have failed to respond to a PDE5i alone 52, 44.

Type 2 Diabetes 27

  • TRT has been shown to significantly reduce HbA1c and fasting blood glucose in hypogonadal men with Type 2 Diabetes.
  • In addition to restoring erectile function, libido and reducing fatigue, studies have shown that TRT reduces insulin resistance and improves glycaemic control in hypogonadal men with Type 2 diabetes.
  • The improvements in glycaemic control, insulin resistance, cholesterol and visceral adiposity lead to a reduction in cardiovascular risk.

Testosterone replacement therapy is not suitable for everyone, and is contraindicated in patients with prostate and breast cancer, and those who are allergic to the constituents of the medication. Please see the individual summary of product characteristics for side effects before prescribing.
