How you can help yourself

Approximately 1 in 10 men suffer with erection problems. However, only about 10% of them are currently being treated. This is partly because many men are unaware of the range of treatments available to them or do not think that their condition can be treated. However, the greatest barrier is embarrassment at the thought of discussing such personal issues.

Nevertheless, now is probably the best time to overcome this type of fear or apprehension about seeking help from your GP or nurse. The most frequently prescribed class of drug for erectile dysfunction are PDE-5 inhibitors, of which there are three. These treatments are available on prescription so it is essential that you consult your doctor or nurse as soon as possible to find the correct treatment for you.

Men respond to different treatments in different ways; if you have sought treatment before but it didn't work for you or if you just feel there is room for improvement on your current medication then don't be deterred from going back to your GP or nurse to try an alternative.
