Testosterone Deficiency Syndrome and ED
Testosterone Deficiency Syndrome (TDS) happens either when the testicles don’t produce enough testosterone, or when hormones are out of balance, causing a low testosterone level (usually below 12 nmol/L) 25, 50. Late-onset hypogonadism (LOH) is a form of TDS associated with advancing age 50.
Low testosterone can cause a range of symptoms, including ED, loss of sexual desire (libido) and a general lack of energy, as well as depression, hair and muscle loss and a potentially increased risk of developing osteoporosis 36, 1, 11.
It is thought that one in every 200 men 19 in the general population have TDS. However TDS is sometimes undetected as the symptoms are quite general and usually put down to ‘getting older’. Find out more about TDS.
